Uno sguardo al passato

Guardando prima al passato, gli elementi che caratterizzano la corrente dell’estetismo sono molteplici. In primo luogo, il concetto del bello proviene dal Neoclassicismo. Quest’ultimo era caratterizzato dalla ricerca della perfezione estetica. Vale a dire che l’intento era quello di trovare un concetto di bello che fosse oggettivo, di modo che si potessero stabilire dei canoni per definire quella perfezione. Anche nell’estetismo si pone l’immagine al centro dell’interesse: le cose belle sono quelle che riguardano il gusto estetico di una persona.

• Ciò che conta non è il possesso di un oggetto, ma la sua immagine.
  Inoltre, la figura dell’intellettuale che caratterizza questa visione è quella del “Dandy”.

Il Dandy

Si tratta di una parola inglese che si riferisce ad una persona che conduce uno stile di vita raffinato e che è alla continua ricerca del bello nella quotidianità. Ciò significa che si tratta di un individuo, il cui intento è quello di fare della propria vita "un’opera d’arte”, ponendo il culto dell’immagine e della bellezza al posto delle leggi morali.

• Il “dandy” è dunque colui che ricerca costantemente piaceri e vizi raffinati, abbandonandosi spesso anche all’utilizzo di droghe o alcol.
  In aggiunta, è un personaggio riconoscibile anche nel modo di vestire molto stravagante, a conferma della propria personalità. Nell’ambito della letteratura, questa figura è stata riconosciuta in alcuni importanti autori dell’epoca. In particolare, Oscar Wilde e Gabriele D’Annunzio hanno abbracciato a pieno la corrente dell’estetismo.

It is an English word that refers to a person who leads a refined lifestyle and who is constantly looking for beauty in everyday life. This means that it is an individual, whose intent is to make his own life "a work of art", placing the cult of image and beauty in place of moral laws.

• The "dandy" is therefore the one who constantly seeks refined pleasures and vices, often abandoning himself to the use of drugs or alcohol.

In addition, he is a recognizable character also in his extravagant way of dressing, confirming his personality. In the field of literature, this figure was recognized in some important authors of the time. In particular, Oscar Wilde and Gabriele D’Annunzio have fully embraced the current of aestheticism.
